Statesboro born and the oldest of three siblings, Trent’s early years were spent traveling from Gastonia, NC to Athens, Georgia, finally returning to Statesboro in time for middle school. In 2001 with the help of the Pell Grant and the Hope Scholarship, Trent enrolled in business courses at Georgia Southern University where he met his wife, Samantha. During this time, he and his brother began working construction with a family company that covered the southern part of Georgia and South Carolina.
By the age of 22, Trent took up the hammer full time as the project manager overseeing multiple production crews. It was there he learned to appreciate great quality and the value of hard work from his diverse team members of all ages and backgrounds. Years later in 2008, newly married and with his first child on the way, the recession was forcing many construction companies to close their doors. At this time, Trent and his brother Matt purchased the company in an effort to keep the business alive, but by 2010, they realized that they had to make significant changes. They restructured the business model and renamed the company American Roofing. With the birth of his second child, Trent made the difficult decision of broadening their business and opening offices around the country as far as Phoenix, AZ, Cleveland, OH, and St. Louis, MO.
After completely reviving the business over the next 3 years, Trent decided to refocus the company’s efforts on the Southeast region, and in 2013, “Laboring for Love” was born out of him and his brother’s desire to give back to their hometown. Since its start they’ve built access ramps for civic organizations and veterans, free roofs for individuals in need, and partnered with Habitat for Humanity in the construction of multiple homes. They now enjoy donating labor and resources to Habitat for Humanity without the need for fanfare, simply in an effort to provide service to members of the community that they love to see thrive.
